THE INTERVIEW - RENOWNED NATURAL SKINCARE CREATOR MAY LINDSTROM ANSWERS OUR QUESTIONS
May Lindstrom is passionate about pure, powerful ingredients, spices, clays, honey... She believes in simplicity. As a little girl, May was already spending entire days crushing plants and wildflowers to create “potions” that she covered herself with.
What is your skin type?
My skin had been a battlefield from birth, throughout my teenage years and into adulthood. Keeping my complexion even and healthy was a full-time concern! I have the kind of skin that is prone to breakouts and peels when it comes into contact with certain synthetic ingredients, especially preservatives. I’ve had my share of hormonal acne (in my early twenties and during pregnancy), as well as constant dermatitis and eczema.
Since turning 30, my skin has never looked so beautiful. I’ve understood what nourishes my body from within, what nourishes my skin from the outside, and I’ve made lifestyle choices that are essential to my balance. It takes time, but it is something that I — and every woman and man — fully deserve.
What is your daily and weekly beauty routine?
In the morning, my routine is very simple. I splash my face with cool water and usually massage my face, then I apply The Youth Dew or The Blue Cocoon and The Jasmine Garden. If I feel that my skin is dehydrated and sensitive, I apply The Honey Mud in the shower; this enzymatic and antioxidant treatment protects my skin from the evaporation of precious oils. Before leaving the shower, I massage The Good Stuff over every part of my body to hydrate and protect it from head to toe. It’s the sexiest treatment ever, leaving the skin satin-soft and beautifully scented.
In the evening, I cleanse my skin with The Honey Mud (which is a dual-purpose product), to which I add The Clean Dirt every 2 to 3 days to exfoliate effectively, even out my complexion, and boost radiance. Once or twice a week, I take the time to detoxify my skin with my anti-inflammatory superhero: The Problem Solver. Then I massage my face with The Youth Dew, followed by The Blue Cocoon, and generously mist myself with The Jasmine Garden.

What do you do if you get a blemish?
The Problem Solver. Always. It works miracles. Using 1 to 2 masks per week helps prevent blemishes from appearing. I also mix it with The Youth Dew or The Blue Cocoon to create a targeted anti-blemish treatment — The Youth Dew for active, inflamed acne and The Blue Cocoon for painful, inflamed cystic acne.
What do you use for your body?
For my body, I love dry brushing before washing. It’s fantastic for activating circulation and balancing sebum production. Brush toward the heart, from your fingers up to your neck.
After the shower, while my skin is still damp, I generously massage in The Good Stuff. I do this every time I wash, try it and you’ll notice an immediate and significant difference in the health and radiance of your skin.
What are your favorite May Lindstrom products?
The Blue Cocoon is my favorite skincare product of all time, on the entire planet! The Blue Cocoon is a water-free, wax-free balm that melts into the skin to reveal the most beautiful face oil you’ve ever tried. I use it both as a daily moisturizer and as a special treatment when my skin is sensitive, inflamed, damaged, acne-prone, or irritated. It can be used locally or all over the face, neck, and décolleté. It is a powerful anti-inflammatory that soothes the skin in the most beautiful way, delivering optimal hydration and regeneration while eliminating redness and irritation. It works wonderfully for all skin types and is especially effective for those suffering from eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, and rosacea. It’s meditation for the skin! I also apply it around the eyes and on the lips.
Do you have a secret beauty tip?
The one I try to follow and that I advise all my clients: Move, breathe, be in love. Know that you are beautiful. Beauty is a reflection of your inner self — be yourself. Take time to rest your body and mind, to play, to learn, to be joyful, to share fully with others. Beauty reflects happiness and awareness.
Do you have a DIY recipe?
Before a bath, mix one slimming spoonful of raw honey, sprinkle with cinnamon and half a teaspoon of chlorella powder. Massage onto freshly cleansed skin and slip into your bath water to allow the enzymes to penetrate. Your skin will be glowy!

Do you have a special beauty recipe (such as a detox recipe)?
Traditional but very effective — the first thing to do in the morning is drink a glass of warm water with squeezed lemon and a touch of raw honey. If I’m lacking energy or my immune system feels sluggish, I add cayenne pepper. It’s powerful and it works! Turmeric is another major ingredient that is vital for health and beauty.
What do you always carry in your bag?
The Blue Cocoon. I always have one in my bag, another in my bathroom, one on my nightstand, and one on my desk at the studio. I seriously can’t live without it! It looks beautiful under makeup or on top of it to add radiance, as an eye and lip treatment, and I even put it in my hair to define my curls and reduce frizz. It’s the only skincare product that keeps my skin truly healthy and soothed.
