HOW AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE?
I am often asked about the benefits of regularly changing cosmetic brands in one's beauty routine. Some people believe that this stimulates the skin and provides it with new active ingredients, while others fear that it may disrupt the balance of their skin barrier.
A well-suited and consistent skincare routine is essential for achieving results, but it's also important to change your routine from time to time. The real question, then, is: How and how often should you change your skincare routine?
WHY CHANGE YOUR ROUTINE?
First, it's important to remember that every skin is unique and has specific needs depending on its concerns. Therefore, the solution will be different for each person. It's always advisable to change your routine with each new season to adapt the texture and type of skincare products to the climate. Indeed, differences in temperature and humidity affect our skin. Often, in winter, for example, skin may need extra hydration to combat the cold, dry air. In summer, we need lighter textures, such as a hydrating gel, to help your skin stay hydrated and balanced, even in the heat. This is the perfect time to incorporate new ingredients or try a new brand.
DRYNESS, SENSITIVITY, ACNE…
If you have a skin problem that you can't seem to resolve—dryness, sensitivity, acne, etc.—it means your routine isn't right and you need to change your approach. This could be due to choosing the wrong product or applying it incorrectly.
A skincare routine should be a pleasurable experience. If you're tired of your current routine, don't hesitate to change it to rediscover enjoyment and become more involved.

STIMULATE THE SKIN
Skin tends to become accustomed to products we use regularly. By changing brands from time to time, you can stimulate your skin and introduce new active ingredients that will help it renew and regenerate. Furthermore, different active ingredients can produce the same results. Why not alternate them to find the one that works best for your skin? Finally, it's also necessary to change your routine if you're not using the most important ingredients for your skin.
GOOD TO KNOW
Vitamin C, retinol, SPF, and a lactic acid cleanser are the foundation of a well-structured routine. If you're not using them, it's time to change your routine.
THE DRAWBACKS OF CHANGING COSMETICS BRANDS
Some treatments can work immediately, but I recommend waiting 4 to 6 weeks to see real results. Give products time to prove themselves before deciding if they're right for you. Furthermore, changing your routine too often can disrupt your skin's balance. Each brand has its own formula and active ingredients, and it's important to allow your skin time to adjust to these new products. Switching brands too frequently can cause irritation, redness, or breakouts.
THE ART AND METHOD OF INTEGRATING NEW PRODUCTS INTO YOUR ROUTINE
Here are my tips for updating your beauty routine without causing irritation: Assess your skin's condition first; this will allow you to choose products suited to your skin type and specific needs. If you switch cosmetic brands without considering these criteria, you risk using unsuitable products that could irritate your skin.
I recommend changing only one product at a time to give your skin time to adjust. This is especially important to see immediate results. If your skin has improved, you can keep using it; if you experience irritation, then it's the culprit. If you're starting retinol for the first time, begin with a low concentration and space out the applications. You can gradually increase the frequency as your skin gets used to this new ingredient.
EXTRA ADVICE
Use products from the same brand as they are designed to be layered without creating a cocktail of harmful active ingredients and to work in synergy.
