The Winter Routine

La Routine d'Hiver

AT SUPERSKIN, WE ALWAYS RECOMMEND ADAPTING YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE TO THE SEASON.

Depending on the season, your skin’s needs can change, and it can also become accustomed to certain ingredients. During the colder months, we like to add more nourishing ingredients with richer, more cocooning textures so the skin stays plump and rosy despite dry air, cold weather, and temperature changes caused by indoor heating.

In winter, we also tend to neglect body care because of the cold, the lack of sunlight, and a slight drop in energy. Yet it is the perfect time to take care of yourself. It’s rainy, it’s cold, and evenings out are less frequent, which means more time to indulge in self-care. We have put together 10 tips to help you ease into winter gently.

BOOST HYDRATION

Swap lightweight textures (gel, fluid…) for richer, more nourishing ones. Cold weather, heating, and dry air dehydrate the skin. To reverse this process, you need to hydrate it with water-binding ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and protect it from moisture loss with thicker creams. You can also replace your gel cleanser with a more cocooning texture such as a balm or a milk cleanser:

ADD AN OIL TO YOUR ROUTINE

Oils should be applied as the very last step of your skincare routine. They have the ability to penetrate through all the layers applied beforehand. Oils nourish the skin and prevent dehydration—it’s one of the best ways to keep skin hydrated. They are suitable for all skin types, even oily skin. We also recommend massaging your face with a Gua Sha to help the oil absorb properly:

ALTERNATE YOUR EVENING SKINCARE

We recommend alternating your nighttime skincare. It is a great way to benefit from several active ingredients. You can rotate between retinol, acids, and comforting balms. Apply rich, hydrating balms at least 2 nights a week to soothe the skin and restore the lipid barrier:

EXFOLIATE FACE AND BODY

Cold weather and temperature changes take a toll on the skin. Cell turnover becomes slower, which can make the skin look dry and flaky. Exfoliation with scrubs helps remove dead skin cells and also allows skincare products to be absorbed more easily and therefore work more effectively. Avoid overly abrasive scrubs and limit exfoliation to once a week:

USE FACE MASKS

In winter, the skin is dehydrated because the air is drier and the moisture within the skin evaporates. It is therefore important to deeply hydrate the skin by using at least 2 masks a week, and sometimes even leaving one on overnight:

APPLY SUN PROTECTION

We recommend continuing to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day during winter, even when it is cloudy, because UVA rays are just as harmful and accelerate premature skin aging:

CARE FOR YOUR LIPS

Cold, wind, and indoor heating leave lips chapped, tight, and dehydrated in winter. Treat them with scrubs, masks, and balms:

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR DIET

Just as with your skincare, choose comforting foods such as sweet potato, pumpkin, avocado, and oily fish… You can also supplement with hydrating supplements such as Krill Oil and Moringa:

TAKE A BATH

To keep skin soft and protect the skin’s hydrolipidic film, take a short bath at a maximum of 38°C. Add oil or bath salts, and gently rub your body with a sponge to remove impurities and nourish the skin. As with the face, moisturize your body well every day afterward with an oil or a cream:

REPAIR YOUR HANDS AND FEET

Water and cold weather damage the hands. Make sure to moisturize them well every day, and do the same for your feet, which are always enclosed in shoes:
